Helms Bakery District and the Ilan-Lael Foundation are pleased to present In Harmony with Nature: The Architectural Work of James Hubbell, an exhibition of select creations by unique California-based artist, designer, craftsman and dedicated environmentalist James Hubbell.

On view from April 22 to June 18, 2022 inside the Helms Design Center, the exhibition celebrates the artist’s signature style of organic architecture, handcrafted one-of-a-kind environments made from natural materials that provide shelter and inspiration for those who wish to live in harmony with nature. Hubbell has spent 60 years designing and making buildings, artifacts and fine artworks that draw inspiration from the shape of plants, the movement of water and the colors and materials found in organic life. From Ilan-Lael, his self-made home and foundation in Julian near San Diego, California.

“Most important is my infatuation with nature,” he says. “There is also my love of the primitive and naive, gothic architecture, the arts and craft movement, Frank Lloyd Wright, Gaudi, and the pleasure of working with the material of stone, wood, cement, clay, metal, glass, and mosaics.”

Would like to come Friday 12N. Just found out from my friend Vicki Bergstrom about the exhibit. I have seen Jim’s work at Camp Stevens Julian over the years of visiting. Hope you can accommodate me.
