James Hubbell’s 75+ Exhibitions And 100+ Global Artworks
The James Hubbell Art Collection is exhibited annually by Ilan-Lael to share his prolific legacy with public.
Exhibitions are an important way Ilan-Lael engages the public with the art, architecture, and philosophy of James Hubbell. Whether through blockbuster efforts at Oceanside Museum of Art, the main San Diego Library, the Helms Bakery gallery in Culver City, and many other venues (including a long-ago show in Moscow), Hubbell’s inspiring talents on display convey his beliefs about life, nature, and our shared humanity.
The Hubbell Art Collection is made up of thousands of sculptures, paintings, journals, photographs, blue prints, publications and art ephemera from James Hubbell’s life, art making, and relationships to friends and collaborators over the years. It is part of Ilan-Lael’s mission to share this collection through curated exhibitions and publication.

“The old command, “to know thyself,” is as true for the individual as for a culture. If we wish to do anything of real meaning, it is also true that what we do, what we make, and build, is how we understand ourselves. The artist should play an irreplaceable role in human evolution, for his function is to make the vision and the mystery of our existence real.”
—James Hubbell
