Maintain & Preserve

It was James’s wish that his Ilan-Lael home and the magnificent studios where he created his artworks continue to inspire future generations of budding artists, architects and builders.  

Hubbell Studios, which specialized in handmade art and architectural artistic elements for 65 years — continues to do so today. Ilan-lael is now solely responsible for the maintenance and preservation of the historically-designated residence and studios. Part of the foundation’s mission is to continue to keep the Ilan-Lael Studios active and buzzing with art-making and creativity.

Caring for the Ilan-Lael property is part of the mission of the Ilan-Lael Foundation and the employees who work here. Every employee, aided by volunteers and skilled laborers, take part in this labor of love which is funded by our generous supporters.

Traditional building and craft are practiced in the process. Adobe building preservation and restoration, mosaic and stained-glass repair, wood conditioning, and native landscape management are just some of the everyday tasks that keep our buildings looking good and functioning for the many uses of our site.
