Learn how to coil a beautiful basket around a polished stone center from artist Nadine Spier, an award-winning fiber artist. It’s an easy way to start a basket and you’ll find yourself looking for exciting things to use for centers such as brooches, pendants, etc.
Students will learn how to weave so their stitch work is identical on both sides of the basket using the swirling basic stitch. Pine needles and Irish waxed linen thread provided, but the coiling technique can later be used to weave many other common plants. In addition to learning how to coil, you will learn how to start the sides, how to shape the basket, and taper down and finish the final coil.
