Walk for Peace!

Sunday November 20th
10 am – 1 pm
Shoreline Park, Shelter Island

Ilan-Lael Foundation is sponsoring a walk on Sunday November 20th, 2022 from 10 am to 1 pm, along Shoreline Park on Shelter Island, one of San Diego’s most beautiful Port waterfronts, and home to our Pacific Rim ParkPearl of the Pacific.”

The PRP Friendship walk invites our diverse international community to come together in a friendly, healthy, and informal setting under the banner of friendship. Beginning at Jim Hubbell’s elegant Pacific Portal gazebo at the entrance of Shelter Island, the group will walk about one mile to ‘Pearl of the Pacific’ where there will be food, presentations, and original artworks on display from around the Pacific…expressions of peace and what connects us.

We are happy to acknowledge and celebrate the 65th Anniversary of the San Diego-Yokohama Sister City Society, which was established in 1957. It is fitting that the Yokohama Friendship Bell is also located on Shelter Island, near the Pacific Rim Park’s “Pearl of the Pacific.” This gift of the Yokohama Friendship Bell served to mark the establishment of a sister city relationship between San Diego and Yokohama, which was the first such affiliation on the West Coast.

We Need Your Help!

There is no charge to participate, but we encourage donations to help offset event expenses. Our goal is to raise $15,000 toward the next Pacific Rim Park project.

Recent events remind us of how quickly peace can be threatened. We know that the movement for peace must be consistently renewed. PRP is an all-volunteer project and the success of our parks and our mission are owing to your support.

“What if the Pacific were a new culture, different from the Atlantic culture, a new way of understanding our place in the world? What if the countries and people that live by this grand lake thought of themselves as a family? This may seem hopelessly naïve, but if we are able to imagine it, it is possible. We live in a place unmatched by its diversity of nature, by our overflowing rich cultures, and all our unique ways of celebrating life.” —James Hubbell
