Love and Light – The Beautiful Story of Roberleigh H. Claigh  

Roberleigh H. Claigh was the eldest sister of James Hubbell, born May 23rd, 1930 and departed life on October 27, 2017. Her birth name was Anne, but she later changed it to Roberleigh based on her study of numerology and astrology. She was a dancer in her youth, published author, a master astrologer-numerologist, Huna teacher, enchanting storyteller of Hawaiian myths and mother to beloved son, James. She lived a beautiful, creative and artistic life just like her two brothers James and Harry (Bert). 

From the 1960s to 1980s Roberleigh’s life was in Hollywood California with her husband and son, James. She worked as a dancer and actress, her role in the Julie Andrews film “Star” was a proud moment both she and her family recollect fondly. She lived in a home adorned with art, in particular she was a loyal supporter of her brother James, who was at the beginning of his budding art career in the 60s. By the early 1970s, Roberleigh had commissioned several pieces by James; letters between James and Roberleigh detail the color choices and precise decisions of where to add certain architectural details. Notably James designed a set of carved wood and mosaic resin and front doors and a resin shower stall panel that are unique to James early career when he experimented with new technology like plastics and polyester resin. In addition she loved her brother’s stained glass, she commissioned three stained glass side lights, a very large panel of stained glass with an operable window at the top and 3 outdoor stained glass and cedar wall sconces. She was a proud sister who not only cared deeply about supporting her brother but about surrounding herself in beauty and art. 

Roberleigh spent the last 25 years of her life living happily in Kauai, Hawaii with husband Grady Deal, PHD publishing books and teaching and living a beautiful life of Light and Love. She authored: Numerology for Personal Transformation, The Star Gazer: A Hawaiian Astrological Tale and The Kahuna Way to Create the Future in 5 Steps. Roberleigh does workshops and lectures nationwide. She is a yoga teacher, massage therapist and director of Hawaiian Wellness Holiday and Hawaiian Metaphysical Vacation on the garden island of Kauai.

To Hollywood and Back – Hubbell Family Art Seeks a Second Life 

Years after her passing in 2017, her Hollywood home was sold and eventually the custom Hubbell art was deinstalled by the new owner, at that time Ilan-lael acquired all remaining pieces. Our archive assessed the historic art, and reserved several pieces for the permanent collection due to their rare materials. The polyester resin mosaic double doors and the polyester resin shower panel will likely be exhibited in future Hubbell Retrospectives for public viewing. The remainder of the Roberleigh collection is now being offered for sale to help preserve the Hubbell Legacy and give these pieces a second life through careful restoration. Their nostalgic and enchanting palettes of the 1970s with orange, brown and green will likely compliment a home that brings back the vintage vibes. Each piece was hand crafted by James himself, the commissions were done at a time where there are very few hands helping him in the studio.

Until recently, Ilan-Lael has only released one restored piece from the Roberleigh collection, a beautiful stained glass wall sconce, it was auctioned at the annual Harvest Moon dinner fundraiser in 2025 to kick off a 5 year campaign to support Ilan Lael into the future.
