Description
A new book released November 2021 celebrates and chronicles the life of San Diego artist and visionary James Hubbell.
“Every once in awhile an individual walks across the land who has the primitive insight to unmask many of the artificial trappings of our civilization. Where this happens the land is always better…Jim is such a person.” – Transcript from Choate prep school’s Professor Wilfong
“Jim’s Gift” offers its’ readers an opportunity to view this artist’s life from his earliest years, taking us back in time when his maternal grandparents died during the 1918 pandemic. What follows is a lifetime of synchronicities, trust, and a passion for beauty as a young Hubbell travels through Africa, hitchhikes across the U.S. and Europe, and his conflicts about being drafted and sent to South Korea during the war.
Seeking Beauty is a complimentary addition to the 2019 film Between Heaven and Earth, by Marianne and Michael Gerdes, that showcases the life and work of Hubbell, by diving deeper into his life circumstances, education, influences, and finding the love of his life and muse, wife Anne.
Author, Angie Brenner (Anatolian Days and Nights, Tree of Life Turkish Home Cooking), with Hubbell’s assistant Sarah Jamieson who transcribed his journals and conversations, developed this story with James and Anne.
