Rare Hubbell resin art door panel originally designed as a floor to ceiling door treatment. Features plaster half-moon shapes, sea shells, gold leaf mosaic tiles, and green, turquoise, and clear stones against a backdrop of dark turquoise and copper paint, and coated with a resin treatment. Top panel has an 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ notch removed from installation. Condition: Good to fair, some wear on lower 18″ of main panel
Please note: No repair needed, but the small door with the notch can be cut and modified by buyer to fit installation destination. Cost of modification not included in price

This piece was removed from the Triton restaurant in Cardiff – The Triton Story James Hubbell designed and built two restaurants named The Triton in the 1970s for restaurateur Jay Martin. Hubbell designed a whimsical, immersive beachside dining experience that became a unique San Diegan treasure, loved by locals and tourists alike for 40 years. Filled with his hand-built art creating an underwater world, The Triton left a lasting impression. After the Cardiff location closed in 2014, the community, spearheaded by a Hubbell Art enthusiast named Steve Blumkin, saved nearly all the art from destruction. Much of the stained glass was divided into sections for an art auction in 2014 that seeded the construction of Ilan-Lael Art Center, the foundation’s art education headquarters.
Own the original story, these rare unrestored artworks have been returned to Ilan-Lael looking for a new life. Each piece is in its original state, crafted by the hands of James Hubbell, but unrestored after years of use in a loving home. Depending on how the buyer intends to install or display these pieces, they will be entitled to a one on one consultation with a Ilan-Lael Studio artists to estimate and discuss the necessary repairs. This unique opportunity gives the art buyer a chance to become an active participant of Ilan-Lael’s mission to preserve the legacy of James Hubbell and invest in an authentic and custom studio repair original.
