Walk the winding paths and gardens on a docent-led adventure and explore the famous Hubbell family home and studios. Experience the famous “Boys’ House” where sunlight pours through stained glass. View the art and architecture of James Hubbell surrounded by the natural beauty of the Laguna Mountains and be inspired as nature and art truly dance together as one.
Admission fees go entirely to the non-profit Ilan-Lael Foundation, dedicated to preserving the property and its legacy of bringing art and nature events to the community. We hope to see you here!
Parking for this tour is at Ilan-Lael foundation, 930 Orchard Lane, Julian, CA 92036. Detailed driving and parking instructions will be sent via email 1 week prior to the event.
Due to the historic nature of th private home, not all buildings have ramps and handicap access. This tour is not recommended for those who have difficulty walking. Paths are not paved, and some buildings are accessible only by steps and/or stairs.
What will I see on the tour?
Our Open House tour is a docent-guided walking tour of the Ilan-Lael property, a 10-acre compound comprised of nine unique and hand-made structures. The tour provides access to the organic garden and structures that comprise the home and art studios created by artist James Hubbell. View Grounds Map.

• Pets are not allowed.
• There is a porta potty available on the property.
• There is limited seating available on the property.
• Terrain is uneven with inclines. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended.
• No smoking anywhere on the property.
You are visiting the private home of James and Anne Hubbell. Please respect your surroundings. Do not pick flowers, fruits, or plants on the property. Stay within the maintained grounds as there are poison oak plants and wild animals, including rattlesnakes, in the area.
