With Your Support, Our Art Center Rises!
Thanks to many generous new donations and the ongoing support of our Ilan-Lael members, our Art Center courtyard complex—a triad of buildings in Santa Ysabel—is making great progress. Every time I think we might have to delay the next step an angel steps forward. Thank you all!
I especially want to thank the new partners—Steve Blomkin and Steve Blomberg—in the original Triton Restaurant property in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. Their plans for the building included a major demolition/remodeling, and they made the amazing decision to donate numerous stained glass windows (still in the old restaurant) to Ilan-Lael Foundation. Our team removed them carefully, did some restoration work, and they look spectacular once again.
We placed the first round of windows up for bidding through an on-line auction last year. What a success! The funds from this auction were a remarkable gift that jumpstarted our building efforts at a badly needed moment. We raised almost $70,000 (and still have a few spectacular windows looking for a new home).
We’ve used the auction funds to color coat the second structure—the “administration building.” We expect to occupy the space this spring. Plus, we were able to pour the slab for the key Classroom/Meeting Space and order future building materials—all major accomplishments. Future donations will complete the Classroom/Meeting Space.
Yes, future donations. Modern building costs are high; so very different than when we built our other buildings. I am hoping we can keep moving by securing new grants, as well as corporate and individual donations. The total cost to finish everything, including the courtyard and planting apple trees at the entrance, is expected to be $420,000.
When all this was happening it occurred to me that one of the Triton windows might have said to its neighbor, “We are just sitting here getting old. Let’s go help Jim build his brand new center.” Thanks to all your generosity, those windows are enjoying a new purpose in life.
Now, like the windows, I am asking for your help to finish this very important building—it is vital to the Foundation’s future. Together, we will build this key tool and help Ilan-Lael contribute to a world that celebrates beauty—and teaches future generations the remarkable link between art, education and nature.
Thanks again, Jim

James Hubbell is creating a building that brings to life he and Anne’s vision of Ilan-Lael as a public space of extraordinary purpose. The Ilan-Lael Center accommodates meetings, classes, exhibits, performances, and serves as the public entry point for the many visitors who come to the Ilan-Lael for inspiration, education, and enjoyment.
We are at the threshold of the third phase of construction on our meeting and classroom. We need $250,000 for construction. We appreciate your support in any amount!
Give at a substantial level and your name will be remembered at the Ilan-Lael Center!
