The San Diego Friends Center cordially invites you to join the unveiling of the Peace Crane sculpture and celebration of the culmination of the visionary effort to create a sustainable facility for peace, justice, spiritual growth. The net proceeds from this event will be dedicated toward the $30,000 to finish the Meeting Room and make it available for community groups.

Nearly Completed: the San Diego Friends Center — A permanent center for peace, social justice, spiritual growth and environmental sustainability in San Diego; building design is by Hubbell and Hubbell.

 

The unveiling celebration will include:

~ Brief Presentations from James Hubbell and Carol Jahnkow

~ Light fare of Appetizers and Desserts from Alchemy
(neighborhood restaurant serving local sustainable food)

~ Silent Auction – bring your checkbook for the fabulous items!

Tickets are $75.

The San Diego Friends Center is a partnership of the First Church of the Brethren of San Diego, the San Diego Religious Society of Friends, Peace Resource Center of San Diego, and the American Friends Service Committee. The San Diego Friends Center building was designed by Hubbell and Hubbell, built in a sustainable manner and will be operated sustainably. The partners will make the building available, on approval, to other community organizations.

Opening October 8th: Fire and Rebirth Exhibit  

Featuring the Work of James Hubbell and Pamela Underwood

“The Escondido Creek Conservancy invites you to join them for the grand opening of this amazing exhibit on the transforming power of fire, told through the paintings of James Hubbell and Pamela Underwood and the first-hand photographs and found remnants of locals who also went through the Harmony Grove (1996), Cedar (2003) and Witch (2006) fires. It is an ecological story of the resilience of people and places.

Following the artist reception, Rick Halsey from the Chaparral Institute will give a talk on the part fire plays in the environment.”

                         Followed by a lecture with Rick Halsey: “Fire and Nature”

New Dates for Workshop: June 20th – 26th (option to stay until 28th); James Hubbell’s stained glass workshop June 22nd; see details below.

Dear Friends, 

The dates have changed for La Rosa Blanca 2011.   It is now a week later, being kicked off with
the open house tour of Jim’s home Sunday, June 19th and starting full bore on Monday, June 20th and ending on June 25th.  It should be a really fun experience.
